Natural Weight Loss Tips to Increase Metabolism

Nov 25, 2010 Sharon Gaspar

For those of you who want to lose weight and those of you who are fighting a slow metabolism, there are multiple ways in which you can improve the rate at which your metabolism runs. Try a few of these simple, but extremely effective tips!

Step 1: Drink Water

If you drink a lot of water, it prevents you from dehydrating. Dehydration has been proven to be a cause of a slow metabolism. It’s also proven that people who are dehydrated are hungry and thirsty and end up eating or drinking unnecessary calories. Drinking water keeps you full. Keep up the amount of water that you drink so as to keep up the rate of your metabolism.

Step 2: Small Snacks

Eat small snacks in between meals. By eating small snacks in between meals, it will keep you from overeating. However, make sure that your small snack is a healthy one! Peanut butter is a great snack to eat because stickier foods make you feel fuller and therefore you end up eating less.

Step 3: De-stress

Stress can cause your metabolism to slow by causing muscle loss in your body. Try to cut out the stress in your life and if you can’t do that, find ways to de-stress your body. Try doing things like yoga or other calming exercises that release the stress in your body. If that doesn’t work for you, find other activities that help relieve the stress in your body.

Step 4: Get Outside

Sunshine is a great source for vitamin D and vitamin D is proven to be a great way to lose weight and increase the rate at which your metabolism runs. Lather up in sunscreen to protect your skin and lay out in the sun. Combine this with step 3 by going for long walk or a jog. You’ll be de-stressing and getting outside both at the same time. If you go for a walk or a run, bring a bottle of water with you so you don’t dehydrate.

Step 5: Vitamins & Fiber

Vitamin C has been proven to help burn fat in the human body. Make sure you opt for fruits like grapefruits or oranges. It is suggested that you eat about 75 milligrams of vitamin C a day. It’s also proven that fruits high in vitamin C are strong in fiber, which is another fat burning agent.

Step 6: Take the Long Way

Look for purposeful ways to burn calories like taking the long way. While the elevators or the escalators at work are easy ways to get around, they aren’t the most efficient ways for burning calories. Give yourself a little extra time to walk up the stairs instead of using an elevator or escalator.
