You Can Burn Calories Even In the Office - Wikicommons
Physical fitness exercises that promote the burning of calories and the reduction of body weight are sometimes seen as home-related activities but the reality differs. When it comes to where to burn calories effectively there is no better place than the workplace.
What are Calories?
Calories or more specifically food calorie is the unit in which the food energy released is expressed. Food substances that mainly provide energy to the body are fats, proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, organic acids, polyols, and ethanol or alcohol.
Calories are the amount of energy released after the foods have been broken down in the stomach through the biological process of cellular respiration. The medical or nutritional equivalent of the calorie is equal to 4186.8 Joules.
This unit is also sometimes referred to as the kilocalorie. In the technical sense, a kilocalorie is the amount of energy needed to raise 1kg of water through a temperature of 1 degree centigrade.
Five Ways to Burn Calories at Work
Because calories, when present in the body in the wrong proportion, can have adverse effects, it is best to ensure a biological balance. One way to do this is to eat a balanced nutritional diet; the other way is to exercise regularly. Whether in the office or other locations in the workplace, these five easy steps are bound to help burn body calories effectively.
1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Avoid elevators as much as possible but if you must use one, alight at least 3-5 steps early then take the stairs the rest of the way.
2. When walking from one location to the other, walk briskly with your chin up and your back and shoulders slightly held back. Breathe freely while you walk.
3. Find the time to stand up and stretch for five minutes every hour. Do laps too if possible. Stretching for 30 minutes cumulatively everyday burns up to 135 valuable calories in the body.
4. Stand up as much as possible. Avoid sitting down most of the time. Standing up to receive phone calls, call for someone’s attention etc are good ways to burn calories. If time permits it, it is also a good idea to trade phone and e-mail conversations for fitness walks in the workplace.
5. Do office stretches regularly. These routines are particularly advisable because not only do they help burn calories but they also help to relieve aches that build up on the neck, shoulders, and muscles.
Positive Effects of Burning Calories
Research has shown that fitness and aerobic exercises considerably improve metabolic rate for at least 24 hours; the greater the number of hours spent exercising the greater the metabolic rate.
The reduction in body fat also helps the heart by reducing the risk of heart-related illnesses and diseases.
Other Ways of Burning CaloriesOther ways of burning calories include drinking at least eight cups of water every day, drinking coffee regularly, and eating frequently but in small amounts.
