ANTELOPE, Calif. — Michael Waltrip just can’t seem to get the urge to race out of his blood.
Waltrip, the 2001 and 2003 Daytona 500 winner, will drive the No. 55 Toyota fielded by Bill McAnally Racing during the season-ending NASCAR K&N Pro Series West 3 Amigos Tequila 125 at Phoenix Int’l Raceway Thursday.
“I love racing at PIR,” said Waltrip, who owns Michael Waltrip Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. “The fans are great. They come from all over the west coast and the central part of the country because they really enjoy the excitement of watching racing in the desert.”
McAnally currently fields entries for K&N Pro Series West championship leader Eric Holmes, Paulie Harraka and Moses Smith. This is the second time Waltrip and McAnally have teamed up to enter a NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race.
“We teamed up for a West Series race back in 2001 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway,” said McAnally. “We are looking forward to have a driver the caliber of Michael Waltrip to race with us in our series. It’s great for the all the competitors and will help showcase the future stars in the west.”
