The iRacing Silver Crown Series has started in full swing for the fourth season of 2010. Many iRacing members are unaware that his fun yet challenging B level car has taken on a whole new meaning, as InsideSimRacing has made it public that they will be holding a special contest for this season’s Silver Crown Series.? With a little help from strong Silver Crown series advocate, Nick Neben, the InsideSimRacing Silver Crown Championship was born. Aside from the regular points that iRacing will be calculating, a second series of points will be used for the InsideSimRacing championship.? Regardless of the number of drivers in each split, each race winner will receive 60 points, and last place will receive three points. You can also get three bonus points for leading the most laps or qualifying on the pole. This points spread system, unlike traditional scoring, is being calculated alongside of the actual standings that iRacing provides.? Unlike the eight “keep weeks” you have in official iRacing scoring, the InsideSimRacing Silver Crown Championship allows you 12? . . . the catch being that in a 12 week online racing season, theoretically, you can score all of your points from a single week depending on your performance.
Double your pleasure! With points on the line in both the iRacing series and the InsideSimRacing Silver Crown Championship, Phoenix International Raceway was a hotbed of Silver Crown action.
This opening week, there were seven splits at Phoenix International Raceway, each with hungry sim racers who wanted to quench their taste for victory.? In the top split race of the week, last Thursday at 9:45 PM, New England’s PJ Stergios won in commanding fashion, leading 67 of the 75 laps of competition.? Right on Stergios’ heels was the hard-charging Kenny Humpe, finishing a mere two tenths off the top spot.? NASCAR iRacing Series World Championship competitor and Silver Crown regular Vinnie Sansone finished third, with Jake Stergios and Steffan Wisselink rounding out the top five. Other Week One race winners included Sansone, Kevin Gram, Scott Green, Mario Girard and Alan Binder, the only driver to win multiple races.
The 3902 strength of field in the inaugural Silver Crown race of the season has given PJ Stergios the early lead in the overall iRacing points with 244. Just 13 points behind with 231, Humpe is hoping to take over with some luck this week at USA International Speedway. Sansone, Jake Stergios, and Wisselink round out the top 5 in points as a result of their great finish in the high strength of field race.
PJ Stergios jumped into iRacing.com Silver Crown points lead with his win at PIR.
Interestingly, the InsideSimRacing.tv standings tell a different story. With all seven races on an equal playing field, Neben’s consistency powered him into a tie for the lead with Nick Nichols as the twosome has two top ten finishes. Three points back is the two-time winner this week, Alan Binder, the only driver currently undefeated in the series. Giovanni Mungin and PJ Stergios round out the top five.?? None of the drivers are taking these standings fully at face value yet, as they have not met their 12 race requirement.?? However, they will have the opportunity to add lots of races at USA International this week.
