Vary Your Exercies, So You Don't Get Bored - photo by Ed Yourdon
Daylight savings was fun. I got an extra hour of sleep and I felt great all day. Then I stayed up too late last night! Now it's Monday morning and I'm really dragging here. I've had a shower, breakfast, and my granddaughter is over. I can't just go back to bed. What was so important last night that kept me up so late it could affect the next twenty-four hours? Or worse... if I am run down, I am more susceptible to catch a cold or flu virus. Staying up late isn't just plain silly, it is irresponsible. I will do better tonight.
As for this morning, I need to find a way to perk up, and I can't resort to caffeine, which I am allergic to. I remember learning about morning affirmations, but it isn't part of my morning routine. I think that will become my next healthy habit.
Start Each Day with a Positive Attitude
When you give an affirmative answer, you are saying "yes". So the easiest way to explain an affirmation is that you are saying "yes" to yourself. We say "no" all the time. Not necessarily to others when they make demands on our time, but to ourselves. We put ourselves down. Maybe not verbally, maybe not even consciously. But we have a negative little voice inside that constantly tells us, "You're fat. You're lazy. You're a failure. You can't do that. You don't like that. You won't do that"... or a thousand other little things that chip away at our confidence and rob us of our chance at success. A great way to put a stop to that is with the morning affirmation.
You may need to write one down until this becomes second nature, because we are not in the habit to talking nicely to ourselves. Make it about four sentences long - long enough to list some positive attributes, but short enough you'll eventually have it memorized. Then every morning, stand in front of a mirror, and put on a great big smile, and tell yourself your positive affirmation. It may be something like this,
- "I love myself! I love the way I look. I'm healthy, fit, and full of energy. I had a good night's sleep, and now I can't wait to get started on this new day! Yeah, me!"
Maybe you don't really like the way you look... yet. We're just starting on a year-long diet! But one of the nice things about positive affirmations, is that you don't have to be totally honest. You're being nice to yourself. And you're going to use positive visualization to help you achieve your goals. But first, we change the way we talk to ourselves. So take time right now, and write your own positive affirmation.

Today's Exercise Plan
It is a bright, unseasonably warm day. A friend and I are going to take our little ones downtown to the museum, story hour, then a walk through the park. It's not strenuous, but it will be pleasant. And of course, my dogs need to be walked later.
One week down! Only fifty-one more to go.
If you're new here, you may wish to start with day one, although there's nothing wrong with jumping in at any point along the way.
