Charity auctions rides in Burns’ cars

Richard Burns, Subaru, New Zealand 2001Fans of Richard Burns are being offered an unparalleled opportunity to ride in the cars which defined the 2001 World Rally champion’s career at next week’s Rally Great Britain.

Through the charity established in his name, the Richard Burns Foundation, six rides around the Cardiff Bay superspecial stage on Saturday November 13 in six different cars are being auctioned to help raise money for the cause.

The cars are: the Peugeot 205 GTi Burns used to dominate the 1990 and 1991 Peugeot Challenge; plus the Peugeot 309 GTi he was loaned by Peugeot Sport after his success in the 205 - Burns used this car to win his class on the 1991 RAC Rally. The Group N Subaru Legacy which Burns won the 1992 British National title in, and the subsequent Group A Legacy RS which he won the British Rally Championship crown in the following year.

The two World Rally Car rides available are in the Peugeot 206 WRC, the last competition car he drove, and the very Subaru Impreza WRC used by the Englishman to become England’s first ever world champion.

The auction winners will be driven in a demonstration run around the Cardiff Bay superspecial stage - with triple British Rally champion Mark Higgins among those doing the driving.
