Losing Weight with Lorelei - photo by author
I'll be out of town for three days, as I accompany my husband on his business trip. I'll have internet access, but I won't have access to my kitchen! So following a diet will be a bit challenging. Still, I don't want to gain back everything I've lost in three days! So today's diet tip is flexibility. We have to work flexibility into our plan, because life happens. But I can have a plan, and then when I'm faced with a restaurant menu, maybe I'll have more willpower to order the salad instead of the cheesecake.
Flexibility Must Be Part of a Successful Diet Plan
My husband and I often share an entree when we dine out. Restaurants are in the business of selling food. They are succeeding by super-sizing everything. The meals are just too large. No one has room for appetizers and dessert, because the main dish is enough to feed a family. I read somewhere recently that it is a good idea to ask for the take-home box as soon as you place your order. Then when the entree comes, you can put half of it in the box and not be tempted to over-indulge. That's a great idea! But as I will be staying in a motel, I'm not sure what I'd do with the left-overs.
Once I ordered off the senior menu, and the waitress didn't complain. I am a grandma, but I've got three more years before I reach fifty-five. The really silly thing is that later that same week I was "carded" at the grocery store for buying alcohol! Ah, we live in such a funny society.
I wish all of you the best over the next three days. Remember to drink lots of water, get plenty of rest, exercise every day, and take time to enjoy life.
Today's Low-Calorie Diet Plan:
- oatmeal (I ate at home before boarding the plane)
- peanuts (offered on the plane)
- Subway sandwich, from the low-cal choices
- Raisins, almonds, dried cranberries mix (I'll pack and take with me)
- Shared dinner entree with my husband
- allow myself one alcoholic beverage at the reception, then switch to club soda.
Tomorrow's Low-Calorie Diet Plan:
- Scrambled Egg, 1 slice toast, juice and coffee at motel
- Raisin mix
- Salad
- an apple
- shared dinner entree with my husband
Next Day's Low Calorie Diet Plan:
- Bagel, Juice, coffee at motel
- Raisin mix
- Salad
- peanuts (on plane)
- cheese, crackers, grapes, wine at home with my honey
My Exercise Plan:
The motel has a swimming pool, and hopefully, a gym. I plan to swim, and work out on the treadmill every day. If there are weights, I can continue my hand therapy, as well, since I don't plan to pack a two-pound weight in my suitcase. The rest of the time, while my husband is at the conference, I plan to lay around in the motel with my laptop and get some writing done. No babysitting, no dog-walking. Just me, a big bed, and a television... maybe I won't get much work done after all! But rest, and enjoying life are just as important. And I'm learning that I don't have to make high-calorie foods part of the enjoyment.
Take care, and best wishes on your own weight-loss goals.
