The Interwetten Honda team has confirmed rumours that it will withdraw from MotoGP after this weekend’s season finale at Valencia - but has vowed to return in 2012.
Daniel Epp’s squad only stepped up to the top level this year, signing 250cc champion Hiroshi Aoyama. It will continue to run a Moto2 team next season while preparing a new MotoGP project.
Aoyama is currently 15th in the championship, his season having been interrupted by back injuries sustained at Silverstone. He is expected to stay in MotoGP and has been tipped for a move to Gresini Honda.
“It is a pity that the team cannot continue,” said Aoyama.
“I had a really good time with them and I want to thank the team for all they did for me.”
