IndyCar driver Ana Beatriz won leg two of Felipe Massa’s International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions in Brazil yesterday, but the overall victory went to Virgin Formula 1 racer Lucas di Grassi.
Although Di Grassi retired from Sunday’s heat with damage following contact with Antonio Pizzonia, he ended up tied on the same points tally from the weekend as Beatriz, Massa and Rubens Barrichello. The finishing order from Saturday night’s first heat at Florianopolis’ Arena Sapiens track was then used for a tiebreak to determine the overall winner.
In Sunday’s event, Beatriz battled through from 11th on the grid to snatch victory with a late move on Barrichello, after a tussle with the Williams driver, Massa, and Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari.
With Alguersuari and Massa eventually pushed back to eighth and 11th places respectively, former IndyCar driver Felipe Giaffone completed the podium, just ahead of Tony Kanaan.
